Steiff has made some of the nicest forest animals in the market and this Young Lion hand puppet certainly honors the reputation. Its sweet look, with expressive glass eyes and embroidered nose/mouth, is adorable! The airbrushing work is also very nice and gives this character an amazing distressed look that everyone adores. This character is not seen often probably due to its short production time: 1954 to 1961. And this example is even more special because it is an early model #317 made between 1954-58. Like other toys of the time, Lion Cub uses the finest mohair plush. Its head is stuffed with excelsior (wood wool) and has a cardboard finger tube for movement. This puppet has been gently used. It shows age wear with some bald spots, but these imperfections don't take away its vintage charm and personality. This rare little puppet can't wait to join your vintage toy collection!
