Steiff, the legendary German plush toy company, is famous for its artistry, beauty and lasting quality. The company produced incredible stuffed animals of every type, including some unusual characters like this Hen hand puppet, a great example of a bird that is rarely seen as a plush toy. Like other toys of the time, this puppet was finely handcrafted in Germany between 1968-74, a relatively short production time. Its felt comb and flapping mohair wings are adorable. Its head is stuffed with excelsior (wood wool) and has a plastic finger tube for movement. This puppet retains its button and yellow flag #6722/17. The mohair shows some yellowing and age wear, usual for this plush color. Please note that the plastic beak is bent to one side and there are some visible stitches on the top. This playful little bird puppet can't wait to join your vintage toy collection!
