Here's a very old Gentleman hand puppet from the world renown Punch and Judy Puppet Show! Gentleman's wooden head is nicely carved and beautifully hand painted. The expression on his face with painted teeth is remarkable. His hands and legs are also finely crafted from wood. This puppet is a rarity made in Germany circa late 19th Century in large scale! Please note that certain areas of the painting have been retouched/repainted. The same have happened to the costume. But both repaint and redress jobs seem old and must have happened sometime in the past. This type of "revival" is not uncommon on early pieces like this one. The puppet shows some wear with scuffs, paint loss, spots, small chips, discoloration, small holes, open seams and other age and use marks.
