Marionettes have fascinated audiences of all ages over the centuries. Even operas were specifically composed for Marionettes in the 18th century. Not surprisingly a variety of toy replicas were designed for family entertainment. This little marionette is a nice example of a string puppet that populated homes in the beginning of the 20th century. Skillfully handcrafted in Treviso, Italy, by Giulio Soravia, this puppet has a beautiful hand painted plaster head. The body is a mix of fabric and plaster parts, connected by wires. It comes with a box marked "Dona Rosega". Despite some signs of age, this marionette displays very well and will be a great addition to any antique toy collection! ~ Other marionettes from the same set can be found here.
