Germany is recognized worldwide as home to one of the most creative toy-making industries in Europe. It is not a surprise that puppetry is also very strong and has been part of their vibrant culture for hundreds of years. The brand iKünstlerpuppe (Artistic Dolls) is a great example of this elaborate style of early hand puppets once produced in the German Democratic Republic (GDR).
The Crocodile is one of the most iconic characters in a traditional hand puppet show, and this one is large and has an incredible presence with its extra wide mouth! It has penetrating glass eyes and amazing hand stitched features. This hand puppet was created in the Curt Meißner workshop circa 1960s and is meticulously handcrafted from felt and fabric. The lining is made from a silk-like fabric. It still retains the original paper tag. Animal characters from this brand are uncommon. Crocodile can't wait to join your vintage puppet collection!
