Russian puppetry has a long and rich history. The presence of a large number of puppet schools, theaters and museums reflects the vitality and importance of the puppet arts in Russian culture. Puppet performances became widespread during the Soviet era and have remained popular ever since. Their innovative designs and visual quality created a new puppet theater culture for adults and played an important role in education for children.
This beautiful Cat hand puppet is a good example of the Russian mastery of puppet making. It was skillfully handcrafted in the 1980s by the "Factory of Theatrical Accessories" in Hlebnikovo, Moscow. You will be amazed by the puppet's ingenious design. It has two manipulation mechanisms that aren't seen on many hand puppets. A nylon string allows the mouth to open and close while the tail has the ability to move from side to side with a metal wire. This Cat puppet has a happy facial expression that is eye-catching and adorable. The head is made from cardboard and is covered with the same fabric as the body. Certainly a great addition to any vintage puppet collection! ~ Other puppets from the same set can be found found here.
