Steiff, the iconic plush toy company founded in Germany, is internationally renowned for its artistry, beauty, and lasting value. It began in 1880 with the seamstress Margarete Steiff, and was later expanded by the creativity of her nephew, Richard Steiff, who invented the world's first Teddy bear with movable limbs. Monkeys are legacy animals for Steiff and were produced since its early years. This old white Jocko hand puppet is a great example of these early toys beautifully handmade in Germany during the 1920s. Just by the way his hands are sewn you can tell how meticulously crafted this puppet was. His distinctive albino look, with eye-catching green eyes, gives him a captivating expression. White Jocko's head is stuffed with excelsior (wood wool) and has a cardboard finger tube for movement. This puppet has been loved and shows wear particularly on its felt mask. There is a hole on one ear and the pocket felt eye lids have been nibbled, making the eyes "pop". There's mohair wear with some spots/stains on the front of the body. Missing button. White Jocko can't wait to be loved again and join your antique toy collection!
