Steiff produced adorable toys during its early years. Some of their favourite animals were also developed as hand puppets. This old little Scotty Dog is a good example of Steiff's adorable prewar hand puppets and was beautifully handmade in Germany between 1933-43. Its expression with glass eyes is endearing. Just by its proportions and the way it is sewn, you can tell how meticulously crafted this toy was. As you can see from the images, Scotty is well loved and shows lots of play wear. It has lost almost all its mohair covering and there are tiny holes on the hands. But its many years of play give an added layer of personality and uniqueness to it. Scotty's head is still firmly stuffed with excelsior (wood wool) and has a cardboard finger tube for movement. Steiff's trademark "Button in Ear" is still present. Little Scotty hand puppet can't wait to be adopted and join your antique toy collection!
