Edi Kallista (1881-1974) was a Bohemian born artist and director known for his involvement with puppet theater in Germany. He developed a fascinating style of sewn and stuffed textile hand puppets – using felt, jersey and cotton fabrics – that aimed to be “unbreakable and puncture proof". Their facial features are achieved by very artistic embroidery lines and details. They started handcrafting these puppets in the 20s and continued until the outbreak of the Second World War in the 40s. Initially, with his wife Lia, they sewed all hand puppets themselves. This Nightcap character is a great example of their creativity and artistic skills! It has been loved and there is visible evidence of its age and wear, such as stains and stitching repairs on the head. Bring this delightful and rare piece of German puppet art to your vintage collection today!
