Here's the main trio of the world renown Punch & Judy Show! The mischievous Mr. Punch, his bad-tempered wife Judy and the Baby, a character that is rarely seen! Their wooden heads are nicely carved and beautifully hand painted. The expression on their faces is remarkable. Their hands and legs are also finely crafted from wood. This puppet set is a rarity made in Germany circa late 19th Century in large scale! Please note that certain areas of the painting have been retouched/repainted. The same have happened to the costumes. But both repaint and redress jobs seem old and must have happened sometime in the past. This type of "revival" is not uncommon on early pieces like this one.
