In 1808, Laurent Mourguet created the "Guignol", a puppet character that gave birth to an entire theater genre and became a true French icon! Guignol is a representation of the working class of the period and brings the humor and wit of the everyman to life. Like his English counterpart, Mr. Punch, he uses satire to challenge the powerful and has gathered fans from all over the world.
This expertly crafted replica of the renowned Guignol hand puppet was created in Lyon, France in the early 2000s. This figure stands 18 inches tall and accurately represents the protagonist of the eponymous theater show, featuring his signature silk weaver's hat. The head is made from wood composite and painted with care, while the body is composed of fabric with flat wooden hands. This hand design grants the puppet a unique clapping sound when manipulated. Guignol hand puppet can be used in performances or as a special decorative piece.
