Steiff, the legendary German plush toy company, is famous for its artistry, beauty, and lasting quality. The company produced amazing stuffed animals of every type, including super fun hand puppets, like this classic design of Wittie the Owl. And this toy is special not only because of its attractive appearance but also because it is an early model #317, made between 1955-58 and still retains all tags. Its simple but endearing felt beak is an indication of that series. Similar to other toys of the time, Wittie was finely handcrafted in Germany using the nicest mohair plush. It has amazing airbrushing details and two amusing flapping wings. Little black tufts on the top of its head complete its lovable personality. Its is in very good condition with nice coloring. Its head is stuffed with excelsior (wood wool) and has a cardboard finger tube for movement. This playful little bird puppet can't wait to join your vintage toy collection!
