PELHAM Pinocchio Marionette ~ England 1960-80s

Marionettes have fascinated audiences of all ages over the centuries. Not surprisingly some toy companies devoted entire lines of string puppets for the family entertainment. Founded in England by Bob Pelham during the late 1940s, Pelham Puppets achieved international recognition and a reputation of manufacturing fun and easy to use marionettes for children. Pelham's “anti tangle” cross-bar control, with colored rubber washers, allowed the strings to be easily removed and untangled.

This adorable Pinocchio marionette has beautiful movements and an endearing expression. It was skillfully hand made by Pelham, circa 1960-80s. His face is beautifully hand painted. The body is nicely dressed and is made from a mix of composite, plastic, fabric and wooden parts. It measures 11in (28cm) tall and comes with the traditional illustrated yellow box, marked "SL Pinocchio". Despite some signs of age, this marionette is fully functional and displays very well. It will certainly be a welcome addition to any vintage toy collection!
